Hootie Johnson

Hootie Johnson is chairman of the executive committee of Bank of America Corporation. He is a director of Bank of America Corporation, Duke Power Company, Liberty Corporation, and ALLTEL Corporation. He was inducted into the South Carolina Business Hall of Fame in 1987. From 1998 until 2006, he was chairman of Augusta National Golf Club. He was a member of the South Carolina House of Representatives during 1957 and 1958. Later, he was co-chairman of a committee to develop a plan for desegregation of South Carolina colleges and universities. He served on the Columbia Community Relations Council and was a board member of the Columbia Urban League and the National Urban League. He also was a trustee of Benedict College. In 1971, he was presented the Algernon Sydney Sullivan award for distinguished service by the University of South Carolina, and in 1981, USC presented him its Distinguished Alumnus Award. Since then, he has been awarded honorary doctoral degrees by Lander College, the University of South Carolina, and the Medical University of South Carolina. In 1975, B'nai B'rith presented its Outstanding Citizen Award to Johnson, who, besides Bernard Baruch, is the only South Carolinian ever to receive national B'nai B'rith recognition.

William C. "Bill" Boyd

Bill Boyd is a shareholder with Haynsworth Sinkler & Boyd, P.A. He serves as outside general counsel for a major manufacturing South Carolina-based firm. Mr. Boyd is the chair-elect of the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce. He serves on the board of directors of the Business and Industry Political Education Committee (BIPEC) and the executive committee of the Midlands Business Leadership Group. He is listed in Chambers USA, a UK publication, as one of South Carolina’s leading lawyers in mergers and acquisitions and has been named for more than a decade as one of The Best Lawyers in America® (Antitrust; Corporate; Mergers & Acquisitions; Real Estate). He was also included in the 2008 South Carolina Super Lawyers™ magazine for Business/Corporate. From 1995 to 2000, he served as the managing director of Sinkler & Boyd, P.A., a predecessor of the Firm. He is also chair of the Waterfront Steering Team for the University of South Carolina.

Gayle O. Averyt

Gayle O. Averyt began his career with Colonial Life & Accident Insurance Company in 1958 and served as CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors from 1970 until 1993. He has served as a Member of the Boards of Directors of the South Carolina State Ports Authority, Unum Corporation, and NationsBank Carolinas. He also served as a Member of the Board of Directors of the Health Insurance Association of America and Secretary of the South Carolina Insurance Commission. Gayle was named the Businessman of the Year by the South Carolina Chamber of Commerce in 1989. In 1994, he was awarded The Order of The Palmetto and in 1998 Gayle was inducted into the South Carolina Business Hall of Fame. In 2006, he received the Distinguished Service Award for outstanding service to the University of South Carolina.
